Friday July 16 Hong Kong/Kowloon

We all meet and go to lunch/brunch at Dan Ryan's Restaurant in the Ocean Terminal and then head for the Star Ferry and over to Hong Kong. Our family has always loved the Star Ferry and our first journey across the harbor this time did not disappoint. Seemed very familiar until we got to the other side and found ourselves in a huge mall, alas, versus rickshaws and taxis. We go around and around until we finally manage to find bus #260. We climb up to the second deck and enjoy the ride and views en route to Stanley Market. Lots of hills, steep drop offs adjacent to the road, lush greenery, gorgeous views of the harbor and outlying islands. Stanley Market is at the southern end of Hong Kong and is an open air market where all sorts of wares are for sale. Bargaining expected. Probably not the best quality of items. Anna finds a mandarin style silk dress (- can never remember the more exact name for this style of dress...) while Becky finds a lovely hairpiece. It is very hot and humid, by the way! We get on bus #73, go to the second deck, and enjoy the winding journey around on the roads past Repulse Bay to Aberdeen where we get off near the fishing village made up of boats tied up next to one another in the harbor. We start to meander up and down the paved, wide path along the harbor but get caught in a heavy rain so we seek refuge under a gazebo. We all DO have our umbrellas, so it appears we must have packed well! Apparently, there is a typhoon named "Corson" in the area and this is a band of rain from the typhoon. We watch lots of sampan taxis picking people up and dropping them off at stairwells that descend to landings alongside the harbor. We then catch bus #73 back to the Central Pier and catch the next Star Ferry back to Kowloon. We have dinner at Super Star Seafood Restaurant in the Harbour City mall complex and then head back to our hotel rooms to turn in and hopefully catch up on some much needed rest!
